Review: Reusable Snack and Sandwich Bags by Hello Moon

Hello Moon Reusable Snack and Sandwich Bags feature two adorable characters named Luna and Cosmo who were born on the moon. Their mission is to save Earth with one reusable bag at a time. Each order comes with four bags in three different sizes: two sandwich bags, one medium-sized snack bag, and a small snack bag, for $15 on Amazon. There are three different designs to choose from, two of which feature Luna and Cosmo while the other is one of a friendly moon. These bags are small and lightweight, and are perfect for bringing your own snacks on the plane with you, like I recommend in the Travel Guide to Sustainable Flying.

Why the Hello Moon Reusable Snack and Sandwich Bags are perfect for your next travel adventure

The reusable snack bags were invented by self-proclaimed Australian Supermoms who were determined to stop the waste created by disposable plastic sandwich bags. The reusable sandwich bags are made out of BPA-free, PVC-free, and phthalate-free materials. They are also grease-proof, moisture-proof, and waterproof.

Ratings and reviews for the Hello Moon reusable snack and sandwich bags

The Hello Moon bags are out of this world, but don’t just take my word for it. I combed through the reviews on Amazon and this is what their customers say:

Average star rating: 4.8

Number of reviews: 129

Percent of 5-star ratings: 86%

Percent of 1-star ratings: 0% (also no 2-star ratings)

What reviewers are saying

The most common reviews said that the Hello Moon Reusable Snack and Sandwich Bags are:

Cute—Easy to clean—Sturdy—Have an easy to use zipper—Made from high-quality materials—Don’t leak—Keep food fresh—Come in three perfect sizes

Customers say the bags are dishwasher safe; simply turn them inside-out and place them on the top rack. The bags can also be washed by hand or wiped off with a cloth.

The negative reviews for the Hello Moon bags were five 3-star reviews (out of 129 total reviews). One critical review said snacks go stale in the bag, but the overwhelming majority of other reviews said the exact opposite—customers consistently said that the Hello Moon bags kept their food fresh and crunchy. Another reviewer criticized the bags for leaking, but like the comment above, many other reviewers said these bags did not leak.

Another negative review said they didn’t like that the bags aren’t see-through, but I thoroughly researched transparent reusable snack bags (and used many myself) and there are three common problems I find with them:

  1. Transparent snack bags grow mold in the corners over time.
  2. Transparent snack bags are made of plastic (the Hello Moon bags are not).
  3. Transparent snack bags break after a limited number of uses and end up in a landfill or wildlife habitat sooner than later.

Customers of Hello Moon Reusable Snack and Sandwich bags have not reported these problems in the reviews on Amazon. I’m still on the lookout for a transparent reusable snack/food bag to recommend, so if you know of any, let me know in the comments!
